Oklahoma Sentencing Commission

As outlined in the Oklahoma statutes Title 22 Section 1501 et. seq., the Oklahoma Sentencing Commission is a seventeen member body composed of representatives from the legislature, criminal justice system and the public. The duties of the Sentencing Commission include:
  • Make recommendations to the Legislature for the modification of crimes, recodification of crimes, modification of sentencing laws and policies, and for the addition, deletion or expansion of sentencing options.
  • Monitor and review criminal justice and correctional systems in this state to ensure that sentencing remains uniform and consistent.
  • Ensure the goals and policies established by the state are being implemented by sentencing practices.
  • Recommend methods in which on going work in the criminal justice system may be accomplished and by which the correctional population simulation model shall continue to be used by the state.
  • Review all proposed legislation which creates a new offense, changes the classification of the offense, or changes the range of punishment for a particular classification and make recommendations.
